So What DO You DO Mom?

My kids think I “play” all day.

My family is not sure I REALLY have a business.

My clients are my neighbors and friends locally and globally.

How did this happen?

EPIC HOUR

My son attends a wonderful school in Lexington, Ohio, Eastern elementary. They have a progressive idea called Epic Hour. This time is dedicated to teaching students subjects that challenge them to think out of the normal “school box”. It gives them a glimpse into different topics and subjects that they may not have had the chance to experience yet.

The last session, parents were asked to speak about their jobs…After getting the O.K. from my son I started tackling the PowerPoint for this mission.

Reviewing my own history provided me a new perspective on my own journey.

Have I arrived? No. But I have come a long way Baby!

What advice would you give to your 12 year old self?

  • Embrace Change
  • Be Flexible
  • Never Stop Learning
  • Surround Yourself With Great People
  • Learn From Your Mistakes
  • Enjoy Life

But you don’t have to tell this to 6th graders. They haven’t been caught in “Mediocrity’s” grip yet. They still have stars in their eyes. Seeing the bright faces so full of ideas, hope, courage, confidence…they reminded me to Go For It!

There was no pessimism in that room.

There was no pessimism in those hearts.

I wonder what road each student will travel in that room?

On the last slide you will see I encouraged the students to identify their gifts..what’s yours?

Final thought:

My first real job barely exists any longer (operator) and my current job (Social Media Community Builder) wasn’t even named until 2 years ago.

Plans are good, but the ability to adapt is PRICELESS!

Thank you Eastern Elementary for the Best Motivation I have received in a LONG TIME!

Sincerely,

Kym Lamb

Social Media Community Builder…and once upon a time 6th grader!
